Provisional results after 10 races.

It took almost 40 minutes before race one could be started. At last they got away with the black flag except USA 348 who was over the line too early.
The winds are so much more stable today and we haven´t had a single course change during the day.
USA 348 ended the regatta by winning the last race a few meters ahead of NED 124.

Final results will appear here as soon as the protest time limit is up.

We managed to sail two races today too. The wind didn´t die as it did yesterday, only shifted to the east. Now only one day and two races are left. The first four places are occupied by NED 328, NED 355, NED 333 and NED 2. USA 348 who is 5th is climbing again after the drop in the results when they got a DSQ in race 3.

The sixth race had to be shortened when the wind softened out. The finish line where placed at the top mark during the last beat. They also had some south going current against them. The wind died so much that six boats didn´t manage to finish in the 20 minutes timelimit. They are therefore scored DNF in the results. The boats had to be towed back into the harbour.

Its a beautiful day with a sunny sky, blue water and a soft wind from the north.
The tracker software has also been updated a bit so hopefully the tracking will be updated more often and the boats should move smoother on the screen today.

DEN 211 finishes first in the first race for today ahead of DEN 191 who´s second.

Today´s weather was perfect for sailing. The sun shined and the wind was stable with predictable shifts a couple of degrees to both sides. A relief for the RC after yesterdays strong winds and several coursechanges.

Results after day 2 with 4 races sailed.

After a days racing we had a short opening ceremony with chips and something to drink. The sailors where welcomed to Kalmar and also reminded to read the sailing instructions for tomorrows racing.

On July 31st, 2009 | 2 comments

During the finish on the first race day some sailors didn´t know where the finish line was. So three boats tried to finish at the starting line and never corrected their mistake. Because of that they haven´t sailed the course and are scored DNF.

In the second race the wind picked up and waves started to build. The wind shifted a lot and the RC struggled to make the course right.

We had hopes for live tracking today but as some of you have commented there where no tracking. It was not because of any technical faults, it was because the sailors did not read the sailing instructions and picked up there trackers at the race office as stated.
Hopefully we can get them to do that tomorrow.

The eighth race are on its way. On both starts today the boats cleared the line well. So no need for any recalls and black flags today.

During the second race the RC had to lengthen the course to archive the target time. Some sailors also had to abandon the race with boat problems after the wind picked up.

Results after day 1

Purdie, who leads the fleet, reflected on the day’s racing. “The first race was OK, but I did not get a good start, spending most of the time on Curtis’ transom”. “The shifts are predictable, and with everyone travelling at very similar speeds, it is difficult to get past your opponents.”

What looked like a nice sunny afternoon on the water and a simple tune up race got into a struggle both for the sailors and the people placing the marks.
The wind picked up to around 10 m/s and a bit more in the gusts and some big waves started to build up.

There was also a big dark rain cloud which changed the wind direction 40 degrees. We managed to try almost every flag we have except the black one.

Less wind than yesterday and some rain now and then have dominated today´s weather. We managed to do three races today and that means that the Int. Swedish Championship had five races in total.
Winner is Greg Wilcox from New Zealand, second is Jørgen Lindhardtsen from Denmark and third place goes to Bo Staffan Andersson Karlshamns SS who is the best Swedish sailor. Best local sailor is Per Jaensson SK Kaparen with a 21st place.

It´s a grey morning in Kalmar with less wind than yesterday and from the complete opposite direction. That will probably mean less waves today.

The first day of sailing of the Int. Swedish Championship has ended. We managed to accomplish two races before a thunderstorm and rain came in over Kalmar and forced us to send the sailors ashore. The winds have stayed between 8-10 m/s with gusts up to 14 m/s. During the first race one of the top marks began to move and that complicated the course for some of the boats. The preliminary results can be found here: http://www.kalmarraceweek.se/OKSM.html.
